CAVE 20 AJANTA

Cave 20 has an elaborate carved stairway, up to a modest cave, which borrows much from Caves 1 and 17.

The interior ceiling certainly copies motifs from other, grander caves. However, it also adds scenes of hunting and battle which are rare at Ajanta.

The animals, fish-tailed figures, and lotuses are all reminders that this ceiling, like the others at the site, depicts a lotus-lake.
